IMGW STENA LINE #Ferrybox
Last Saturday, the Officina Baltica team, together with a team from IMGW, went on board the Stena Line Spirit ferry to install a new meteorological station on board. We started working with IMGW four years ago when we produced and installed the #ferrybox system for them, it has been monitoring salinity and temperature in the Baltic Sea during the ferry’s voyages on the Gdynia-Karlskrona line ever since (24/7). The system has also been monitoring meteorological parameters (atmospheric pressure, air temperature and relative humidity) since Saturday.

Monitoring the South Baltic Sea in times of climate change: The current #ferrybox on the Gdynia-Karlskrona route is the most up-to-date source of environmental (in situ) data with such high temporal and spatial resolution. It plays a key role in tracking Baltic Sea conditions in an era of dynamic climate change. Providing valuable insights into changes in salinity and temperature, and now also meteorological conditions. In addition to the Polish meteorological services, data from this system is also used by meteorologists from France, Denmark and Sweden.
